Microsoft Kinect and Minority Report, We Are Living In the Future

Minority Report by Steven Spielberg is set primarily in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia in the year 2054. The movie was made in 2002, imagined about 2054. In that movie, Tom Cruise use a glove-controlled interface  to control the images around computer screen.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (MIT-CSAIL), make it happen. Systems Robotics Engineer, Garratt Gallagher has released a video where he pull, drag and toss images, such like what Tod Cruise did. The hand detection software is able to distinguish hands and fingers in a cloud of more than 60,000 points at 30 frames per second, allowing natural, real time interaction. Video Description.  It is fascinating, but I am amazed if they can create devices such in the Iron Man, used by Tony Stark.

As you can watch in the movie, Tony drag the image from the computer using a ‘pen’ to that surface, producing the hologram, that can be ‘touch’. That sound and looks way more cooler.
