This map made by Viscos, go to their website, and you can get a lot more information about distribution about social networking users around the world. It is very fascinating works and for sure a lot of research had been done. They also sahared their information and in their site, they provide the HTML code so then you can share it in your site. Honestly, before I found this map from Viscos, I never knew theres a lot more social networks in this web world. I only knew Facebook, Vkontakte, and Friendster before.
As you can see, the blue color dominate the whole world. Russia still dominated by VKontakte. FAcebook has more than 500 millions users, and VKontakte has more than 100 millions, and they show their increasing number of user in their site. The page looks almost the same as Facebook, with blue color but darker. I have VKontakte account, but rarely use it.
Odnoklassniki taking part in lower part or Russia. Odnoklassnikki means ‘classmate’. Site has helped track down old friends and acquaintances, relatives, first love, someone – to get a job, find unexpected opportunities for professional growth – Odnoklassniki. For me, ‘classmate’ doesn’t sound really professional.
Orkut. As you can see from this site, and from the picture, Orkut is mainly in Brazil (50.60%), followed by India (20.44%) and US (17.78%)–Pakistan, Paraguay, United Kingdom–etc. Orkut is more good looking, beautifully designed.
QZone – created by Tencent in 2005. Within half a year QQ managed to have 40 to 50 million active online users. Among the Qzone users, 150 million update their accounts at least once a month. Maybe right now they have more than 200 millions user, or maybe 300 millions.
Japan dominated by Mixi. Friendster, is not in the map in December 2010. Friendster is my first social networking site, not MySpace. If you go back to Viscos’ site, and you can check in the map December 2009, Friendster is still there.
The others, Zing, Cloob, –etc. Roughly, some other social networks dominate some region because of language. After this I will try to join others social network, just for fun…maybe they are better and easier than Facebook.
